The African-German Network of Excellence in Science (AGNES) has opened its 2026 Grant Programmes , inviting applications and nominations from eligible young researchers across sub-Saharan Africa.

There are three research grant opportunities available, covering biodiversity conservation and sustainable agriculture, junior researchers, and intra-Africa research mobility. Each opportunity has its own eligibility requirements and application process.

Requirements

• Be nationals of a sub-Saharan African country.
• Be officially registered for a Doctoral degree at a university or tertiary institute in sub-Saharan Africa.
• Be working in biodiversity conservation and/or sustainable agriculture.
• Have published at least one scientific paper in a non-predatory journal.
• Have an outstanding academic record and good publications in peer-reviewed international journals indexed in SCOPUS or Web of Science (WoS) .
• Provide SCOPUS or Web of Science URLs for each publication.
• Demonstrate that the original research proposal is relevant to development in sub-Saharan African countries.
